The In-Game Character Editor is an integrated version of the Character Editor that operates seamlessly within your game, providing players with the same powerful customization capabilities available in Popul8. It allows users to create and modify character shapes in real time, adjust skin composition with fine-tuned control over colors, textures, and material properties, and ensure that assets such as clothing, armor, and accessories fit dynamically to different body types. By enabling character customization directly within the game environment, this tool enhances immersion and provides a fluid, interactive experience for both developers and players.
Components
DNA Editor
The DNA Editor allows you to create unique character features by blending different segments. You can blend areas by using a primary shape alongside eight customizable character shapes, giving you flexibility in designing the character's look. The shapes are selected from the project data, and a Box2D selection system helps in precisely choosing the areas to blend.
Bone Editor
The Bone Editor offers the ability to work with multiple bone structures for different parts of the character, such as the body and head. This feature can be applied to a range of assets, including characters, deformable objects, and props. Bone structures are imported through a mesh configuration with a bone-shaping rig, giving you control over how the bones interact with the character's mesh.
Blend Editor
With the Blend Editor, you can create and adjust blend shapes, either masked or unmasked, with customizable values. This allows for fine-tuned control over the character’s expressions or body shape variations, enabling a wide range of customization.
Texture Editor
The Texture Editor includes a comprehensive set of tools for creating and modifying textures. You can build custom skin textures, adjust colors with specialized colorizers, and apply post effects to enhance the final look. The editor features a layered texture editing system, which allows you to assign textures to single material properties or build multi-layered materials, offering more detailed and flexible control over how the textures are applied to the character.
