Skin Transfer
What is Skin Transfer?
Skin Transfer is the process of transferring skin weights from a bone-based rigged model to a deformable, enabling both to be animated seamlessly together.
This ensures that deformations applied to the rigged model propagate naturally to the deformable, preserving movement coherence and consistency. By accurately mapping skin weights, the process allows for smooth blending between rigid and flexible components, ensuring that animations retain their intended motion dynamics while adapting to complex shapes and structures.
Use in Popul8
The Skin Transfer feature will enable the user to import non-rigged assets in Popul8, and turn them into animatable Deformables. The process involves removing the current rig of the model if it exists and replacing it with the rig of the source model. Then, we compute the skinning of the mesh vertices to be adequate for the new rig.
Right click on your Deformable or Model and select Add Component > Rig and Skin Transfer.

The Auto Rig and Skin component will then appear in the Inspector with the following settings:
- Source Model: Drag in the template or model with matching topology.
- Mode: Choose Rig Transfer or Skin Transfer_.
If the model has already been converted into a Deformable, only Auto-Skin will be available.
After adjusting the settings, click Transfer Skin to begin the rig transfer process.
