Skin Transfer
Coming Soon to Popul8 Express
What is Skin Transfer?
Skin Transfer is the process of transferring skin weights from a bone-based rigged shape to a deformable, enabling both to be animated seamlessly together. This ensures that deformations applied to the rigged shape propagate naturally to the deformable, preserving movement coherence and consistency. By accurately mapping skin weights, the process allows for smooth blending between rigid and flexible components, ensuring that animations retain their intended motion dynamics while adapting to complex shapes and structures.
Use in Popul8
The Skin Transfer feature will enable the user to import non-rigged assets in Popul8, and turn them into animatable Deformables.
When the feature is made available, the user will be able to right-click on a template Shape to create a Skin Transfer asset, which will have user configurable settings:
- Bone count per vertex, describing the number of non-zero skin weights assigned to each Deformable mesh vertex.
- Weight interpolation: fast / accurate, describing the underlying spatial interpolation method used to assign skin weights to the Deformable vertices.
After editing the settings, the user will click on Apply Changes to trigger the rig transfer process.
